Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) 5% is a derivative of vitamin C that is a very powerful antioxidant that stops sebum oxidation. Additionally, SAP exhibits a powerful antibacterial effect against bacteria that live in oxidized sebum.
Betaine Salicylate 4% is a combination of betaine (2%), a humectant extracted from beets, and salicylic acid/BHA (2%). The advantage of betaine salicylate is that it acts at a pH very close to the skin (BHA only works at a pH 3.6 thousand times more acidic than that of the skin).
